The Story of Mindful Care
The idea for Mindful Care was born during founder and CEO Dr. Tamir Aldad’s medical residency at an emergency department. A fellowship-trained addiction psychiatrist, Dr. Aldad learned of Lauren, a college student who came in to the ER with significant mental health challenges.
Lauren had just lost her mother and younger sister to an overdose. However, her extreme distress did not meet criteria for hospitalization. It was going to be weeks before she could get connected with the right psychiatrist or a licensed therapist. She was sent home, and later, she tragically died by suicide.
Dr. Aldad saw the immense need for urgent psychiatry – there had to be a way to prevent more deaths like Lauren’s. He got to work and founded Mindful Care in 2018.
We live in a world where mental healthcare seems to matter least on days you need it the most. This is why we continue telling Lauren’s story. We’re committed to a more equitable future where everyone has access to the care they need, when they need it – whether it’s targeted at surviving depression or emerging from psychosis.
Ultimately, we’re working towards the day that mental healthcare far surpasses its potential, so people can meet and exceed theirs, too.
